What ages are eligible to participate in SSA?
3-4 year olds may participate in SSA Tots spring program. 5-14 year olds may participate in our fall league.
How do we register?
SSA is paperless! Parents must register online during posted registration times and pay via PayPal. Typically, February for Tots and May 1-June 1 for fall leagues.
Do you accept late sign-ups?
No. We advertise via social media, print, and our website. In addition, all players from fall leagues are emailed directly, at least twice, from our registration software prior to the close of sign-ups.
My child can only practice on a certain night...when are practices?
SSA volunteers get to select when they will practice and are not determined until the last week of July. Our volunteers are great about trying to accommodate the majority of their players. SSA will not move players based upon practice conflicts.
Can I request a coach or placement with a certain child?
Due to the volume of players in SSA, requests for certain coaches or being placed on a team with another player for any reason, will not be granted.
I want to be the assistant coach for a certain coach, is this allowed?
No. Again, due to the volume of players in SSA rec league, we are always looking for head coaches and will not assign assistants. Our head coaches are tasked with finding an assistant, if they wish to have one, from their roster of players provided by SSA.
I have a team ready to join SSA, is this allowed?
No. We are not a club league and all players must register individually to ensure fair play throughout the league.
I would like to coach. What next?
Great! On your child’s registration check the ‘willing to coach’ and we’ll get you started with our Averity background check. Next, we’ll have a coach meeting the last week of July to hand out equipment, rosters, etc.
When will we hear from our coach and when will practices begin?
The first week of August every year. Be patient with our volunteers!
How often are teams required to practice?
All U8-U14 teams should practice at least once a week (60 minutes), prior to and, throughout the season.
U6 should practice weekly (30-45 minutes) until the start of the league play and are encouraged to keep practices going throughout the season as well. However, once games begin, U6 coaches and parents may decide what is best for their team.
Are there trophies?
Instead of participation trophies, all players are provided a soccer ball to be taken home after the last game. SSA does award first place trophies for the winner of each bracket. These are typically handed out at the last game.
